When the healing doesn't work
Healing, or ‘becoming healed’ is not simply about ‘no longer being sick’. Healing is about becoming more of who we truly are, more of our divine self, our all-loving, all-knowing, wise, joyful, and playful self. ‘Being healed’ is about your life suddenly starting to work. It’s about being in the right place at the right time. It’s about unexpectedly meeting some lovely new people who really enrich your life. It’s about feeling better about yourself and, (ultimately) loving yourself. It’s about being full of energy and ‘get up and go’. It’s about being able to just ‘be’, without distractions and busyness. It’s about being at peace, with yourself and with the world around you. And, of course, it is also about being in vibrant health. So how do we become healed? There are so many different forms of healing processes available to us now to choose from, and, probably all of them can help someone. In my work, I use various forms of ‘energy healing’ or ‘spiritual healing’. Energy healing is a powerful form of healing that can produce miraculous results. Yet sometimes it seems as if the healing has not had any effect whatsoever. Why? Especially, if instantaneous and seemingly 'miraculous' results have occurred in the past? Healing is a process, a journey. The real healing takes place in the days, weeks and months that follow. Sometimes, the healing can happen in unexpected ways. Not always instantaneous, healing can be a gradual process: it may be a speedy journey or a slower one. Sometimes we are not ready to heal. We may have ‘payoffs’ for staying sick. For example, if you are in a job you find stressful you may develop a cold, or a pain, that you cannot shift. Shifting it would mean returning to work and you’re not ready to go back to what caused you the initial stress. Sometimes we stay in the stressful job despite the pain, taking pain-killers to cope. Most of the time we’re not aware of our ‘payoffs’ or ‘reasons for staying sick’. Perhaps, shortly after your ‘energy’ healing session, you come across a completely different therapy that you try that works like magic. Or you may find a book that transforms your beliefs and therefore your life. Let’s say that after your energy healing session you found a therapy that involved a course of vitamin supplements that really transformed your health. One reason this therapy worked (and the first didn’t appear to, might be because you (consciously or unconsciously) believe that ‘healing’ can only come through tangibles like pills rather, say, than through ‘spiritual energies you cannot see’. These are just examples of possibilities, not absolutes. We all heal by attracting what we need in order to heal. We draw to our self ‘something’ that will ‘heal our issue’ – i.e. a therapy that works. If you’ve been feeling low because of your illness, then sometimes simply the “hope” of potential healing is enough to create a shift. How many times have you really been worried about a prolonged illness and visited the doctor who said “It’s nothing serious, just a virus that’s going around. Come back in a week if you’ve still got the symptoms“. Almost immediately you feel better. The next day the symptoms have virtually disappeared. We do this all the time without being aware of it. We have a wish or a desire about something and, ‘coincidences happen,’ and events conspire to miraculously fulfil our desire. This ‘healing-by-attracting-what-you-need’ is all part of the healing process. It may seem as if it’s unrelated but it very much is: that book you ‘unexpectedly came across’ on a second-hand bookstall, or the friend you ‘bumped into’ who mentioned an interesting new job opportunity, or the miraculous mineral supplement you ‘found’ in the health food shop. These are all part of your healing process and you drew them to yourself. Your desire to heal, to be well, and even, to be in vibrant health is the catalyst. The ‘tools’ that enable you to heal are then drawn to you like metal pins to a magnet. Therefore, ultimately, you are the one who does the healing work, not the healer. We are all, our own healers. But sometimes we need a little bit of help. Creating energetic shifts within our 'energy body' through energy healing can assist us in making the changes we wish to make. The best a healer/therapist can do is: * to create a safe and sacred space within which the 'healing' can take place; * to be as balanced, harmonious and peaceful in themselves as they can be; * to have loving intention and compassion for their client, but not to be attached to the healing outcome. So, to know the person may heal, or, they may not; * to trust and believe in the healing process they are using; * to know they are not alone, but are working in tandem with Spirit, and * to know that people heal when they are ready to heal, and when it is right for them. On your healing journey, sometimes your life can get worse before it gets better and this too can be a sign of the healing working. An example is that your job, or your relationship, becomes unbearable. It’s so bad you may get the sack, become sick, go bankrupt, resign, or get divorced. You go through some pain, but the change needed to be made to open up new possibilities. Perhaps, through enforced change you then land a job you love, or fall in love with someone wonderful – someone who loves you too! Things may get worse in order to shift you on to something better. Think of ‘things getting worse’ as a message, or a prompt, from the Universe or from your soul. You’re 'on the wrong road', or you’ve got the 'wrong end of the stick', so you need to make a change. There is an expression that I love: “Listen to the whispers so you don’t have to hear the screams!” (I think Gill Edwards first coined that phrase – or it could have been Denise Linn – I’ve seen it in both their work. It doesn’t matter, it’s a great message.) So notice when you don’t feel great and ask why…. What do you need to change? Should you be somewhere else? With someone else? Doing something else? What do you need to change? You are the captain of your ship so ask yourself “what can I do to make this better for myself?” You may need to change what you are doing, or you may simply need to change your mind about something. It is your intention and your desire to be well that heals you. Through your desire to be well, (and not your desire to ‘not be sick’) you are pulled toward the therapies, books, workshops, processes, tools, pills and potions that will best help you. If you believe in a particular therapy, if it ‘speaks to you’ – go for it! Focus on what you want and only on what you want. Trust that it will come, and you will draw it to you. Be Well!
